the gatehouse
heswall
Within a protected area, a small addition was made to a historic gate house. The idea was to create a new utility room while also creating a more open kitchen. Instead of entering immediately into the kitchen, a space for the entrance was made by relocating the front door. In order to complement the existing structure rather than detract from it, the project was designed to blend in and appear to have always been there. The existing garage was also demolished to provide a new and larger one which made it a more usable space.
